Description
Ostrich feathers - a close-up of ostrich feathers taken in South Africa. To bring out the quality in the details and the clarity of the feathers, I post-processed the image in Adobe Lightroom. Here are some interesting facts about ostrich feathers. Ostrich feathers have symbolic meanings in different cultures. They are often associated with qualities such as pride, wisdom, truth and beauty. Already in ancient times, ostrich feathers were used for decorative and ceremonial purposes. They were used in wreaths, crowns and as a symbol of nobility. Ostrich feathers are the largest feathers of all birds. The wing feathers can reach a length of up to 2.7 metres. Although ostrich feathers are large, they are surprisingly light. This allows ostriches to run fast and use their energy efficiently. Ostrich feathers have excellent insulating properties that help the birds cope with extreme temperatures. The air between the feathers forms an insulating layer that keeps them warm in winter and protects them from heat in summer.
