Description
This image is taken from the streets of Old San Juan, another city that I have visited 4 times and I fell in love with.
Blue cobblestones line up many old streets of the Old City of San Juan. These original cobblestones were cast from iron slag, which is the waste from iron smelting. They were brought as ballast in the bottoms of European merchant ships back in the 1700s. They were first used as road pavers in 1784. Unfortunately, beginning a couple years ago, the original uneven cobblestones are being replaced by modern paver stones.
Old San Juan is one of the world’s most unique places to visit, whether for business, vacation or Caribbean cruise. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Beautifully presented, Hany. And I enjoyed your story behind the stones. I do like it when I don't have to google what I see on FAA to know what I'm seeing! l/f

I was there and never photographed the cobblestones. (Except if they are in a street scene) Love the photo and the way you can see the beauty of the stones. One of my favorite cities as well!

Fascinating information about the composition of the cobblestones - the iron slag must account for the blue color which is just beautiful. I love the patterns, textures, and lines of this image.
Hany J replied:
Thank you so much Nikolyn; an entire neighbourhood of San Juan is paved with these stones; not great for walking as they're not even, but awesome for photography. San Juan is such a wonderful city to visit if you ever get a chance. Appreciate your visit and your comment. Many thanks. Hany

So much interesting stuff in this one. I thought it was reflections at first, then found so much more to look at.

Thank you so much Sarah for you wonderful feedback on this image. Trust me, there are no reflections on this one. And for the most part, straight out of the camera with very little editing. San Juan is such a beautiful city and these stones are just one small part of its beauty. Many thanks for the visit and for the feedback. I sincerely appreciate it. Hany
