Here is the Standard Railroad of the World on the Rockville Bridge. This enormous stone arch bridge spans the Susquehanna River just north of Harrisburg, PA. In the painting, s Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train, led by an E8 A and B, meet a train led by a K-4 Pacific running on one of the inside tracks. I am an American artist who specializes in transportation subjects. I am retired after a 34 year career in the freight railroad industry, so I am familiar with my favorite subject matter. My objective is to capture the essence of a scene or a machine, but without distracting detail. In many of the paintings, I have worked to create a sense of motion. The paintings are created using traditional drawing and painting techniques, and a variety of high quality oil paints, brushes and other tools, including the painting knife. My process is as follows: I begin by making several pencil sketches from different angles and distances.
